Triumph Amidst Tribulation
Romans 8:18 We have sufferings now, but these are nothing compared to the great glory that will be given to us.
The trials and tribulations of life can some days seem insurmountable. Perhaps it’s an accumulation of a thousand little things that’s getting you down. Other times, something hits you like a tsunami. Whatever it happens to be for you at the moment, it grinds you down, right?
The ministry of nineteenth and twentieth century evangelist Smith Wigglesworth was marked by miraculous healings, powerful preaching and a deep, deep faith. And yet, despite his powerful preaching and amazing healing ministry, he himself suffered from some extremely painful health issues. Still he persevered – continuing to minister, continuing to believe in divine healing.
His boldness and uncompromising belief in God’s power inspire many through to this day. So … what kept him going? How did he not just get through his struggles but triumph in them?
Romans 8:18 We have sufferings now, but these are nothing compared to the great glory that will be given to us.
Wigglesworth put it like this: “God can so fill a person with His Spirit that they can laugh and believe in the face of a thousand difficulties.”
Look, we can’t deny our struggles; we can’t pretend that they’re not real. But when we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit, when we allow Him to witness to us the truth of the great glory that awaits us for all eternity, when we allow Him to fill us to overflowing, then today’s struggles, set in the context of eternity, are so diminished that we can indeed laugh and believe in the face of them.
Sure, we have sufferings now, but they’re nothing compared to the great glory that will be given to us.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
