Not Hyped, Not Happy, Just Here
Job 1:21,22 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong. (ESV)
Some days you wake up feeling flat. Hey, some days I wake up feeling flat. We know we should be filled with the joy of the Lord, but … we’re just flat. That’s how it goes. So now what?
The other morning during my usual time with the Lord – praying, reading His Word – that’s how it was for me. There was nothing particularly wrong, but the usual joy and peace that I experience when I’m consciously in the Lord’s Presence just wasn’t there.
So I prayed “Lord I’m not hyped, I’m not happy, I’m just here.” That’s all I had, and my hunch is that God’s good with that. Jesus gets it. He walked the dusty roads of this earth too. And that morning, the Spirit led me to this particular passage:
Job 1:21,22 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong. (ESV)
If you know Job’s story, you’ll know that he went through so many difficult and painful ordeals. And for most of that time, he was neither hyped nor happy. But his trust in the Lord never wavered.
The LORD giveth, the LORD taketh away.
Our feelings wax and wane, our emotions ebb and flow. But the Word of the Lord stands true through them all. God is faithful through them all. He loves you through them all. And that’s why, no matter how we feel, we can say with gusto … blessed be the name of the LORD.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
