Danger! Cliff’s Edge
Hebrews 10:26-27 If we decide to continue sinning after we have learned the truth, then there is no other sacrifice that will take away sins. If we continue sinning, all that is left for us is a fearful time of waiting for the judgment and the angry fire that will destroy those who live against God.
Imagine just for a moment that you’re standing at the edge of a cliff. Below you, the rocks are sharp, the fall is fatal, the wind is howling. But someone’s posted a warning sign: “Danger—Cliff’s Edge.” You’d think twice about getting too close, wouldn’t you?
That’s exactly what this passage is – a warning sign, and it’s not to be taken lightly.
Hebrews 10:26-27 If we decide to continue sinning after we have learned the truth, then there is no other sacrifice that will take away sins. If we continue sinning, all that is left for us is a fearful time of waiting for the judgment and the angry fire that will destroy those who live against God.
God’s grace through Jesus Christ is like a safety net stretched out beneath us, ready to catch us when we fall. But if we knowingly, deliberately, keep walking toward that cliff’s edge despite understanding the danger, there’s no safety net left to catch us. Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins isn’t there to shield us anymore because we’ve chosen to walk away from it.
Now, that doesn’t mean God isn’t gracious or forgiving. He is. But His grace isn’t something to be trampled on. It’s not a “get out of jail free” card that lets us keep sinning as if it doesn’t matter.
Deliberate, ongoing sin is like spitting in the face of the One who died to save you. Warning sign: don’t play games with God’s grace. If you’re toying with sin, thinking you can always come back later, think again.
God’s judgment is real, and so is His holiness. But here’s the good news: turning back is always an option—right here, right now. Choose the safety of God’s grace and walk away from the cliff.
That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
