A Life Worth Living
1 John 5:11-12 This is what God told us: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life, but whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
I never actually set out to offend people … honestly, I don’t! But some days it’s unavoidable that some will find what I have to share … well, offensive. Today could well be such a day.
Do you like being comfortable? I certainly do. I have a soft, brown leather lounge chair in the corner of my study. I’ve had it for years and I swear it’s the most comfortable chair I’ve ever sat in. It’s my thinking chair, my praying chair, my relaxing chair.
We do like to surround ourselves with comfort so, increasingly these days, we’re weaving a blanket of convenient truths in which to wrap ourselves. We don’t mind so much if some of them aren’t quite true – even if one or two are downright delusional – so long as (a) they’re comfortable and (b) no one offends us by pointing them out.
So excuse me if this does offend you, but one day you’re going to die and stand before God who’ll judge each one of us to decide whether we’ll spend eternity with Him (heaven) or separated from Him (hell). And …
1 John 5:11-12 This is what God told us: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life, but whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
So God’s single criterion for separating one from the other will be whether or not they (you!) believed in Jesus; put their complete trust in Jesus; lived their whole life for Jesus.
That may or may not fit into your comfortable blanket of truths but, whether it offends you or not, this eternal truth remains:
Whoever has the Son has life, but whoever doesn’t have the Son of God doesn’t have life.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
