He Is Who He Is
Exodus 3:13-14 Then Moses said to God, “But if I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors sent me,’ then the people will ask, ‘What is his name?’ What should I tell them?” Then God said to Moses, “Tell them, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ When you go to the Israelites, tell them, ‘I AM’ sent me to you.”
When you’re faced with what seems to be an insurmountable problem, what you really need is help from someone you can trust. But in this world where fewer and fewer people even give a toss about what you’re going through, where do you find one of those?
Moses had such a problem back in the day; a completely insurmountable problem. Israel was captive in slavery in Egypt under the brutal rule of Pharaoh. God appears to him in a burning bush, out in the wilderness where he’s serving his penance for the rash actions of his younger days.
Now Moses ,at this point, is nudging 80 – not exactly in his prime. Yet God calls him to go and convince Israel that He’s going to set them free and take them to the Promised Land and then – then! – to go to the all-powerful Pharaoh to tell him to let God’s people go.
Talk about insurmountable!
Fair question, to which God responds with … the strangest of answers.
But as someone once said, God’s name is “I Am”, not “I Was” or “I Might Be” or “I May Get To It”. It is, “I Am” He is in control. He always has been. He always will be … no matter how insurmountable the problem may appear from where we sit.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
