Last night I slept so well. After the emotional events of the last few days I was feeling tired and was glad to wake refreshed this morning. It was such a beautiful morning. I felt I needed to get some exercise. Since hearing of my dad’s passing on Thursday, my mind has been a bit “woolly” and certainly on Thursday & Friday I felt in a complete dwaal! I didn’t feel like running or going to gym, so asked Mike what he felt about walking to the “Eye” by Peer’s Cave but from the Ou Kaapse Weg side. He thought it was a good idea, so we got up and got dressed and stopped by the shop & bought some breakfast to have at the top.
We parked on Ou Kaapse Weg and set off on a well marked path. There is shoulder height shrubbery on either side which makes it feel quite isolated. We walked for a little way before starting to climb towards the rocks at the top. We arrived at the lower part of the ridge overlooking the Valley. What a magnificent sight! We stopped here and had our breakfast. It was amazing looking down on Sun Valley. It’s so familiar to us and amazing to see it from this angle. After a short while, we continued upward and through some steep rocks to what the path right below. The “Eye” is the big cave higher than Peers Cave and to the left when you look up at Peers Cave from the Valley. You can’t miss it as it has the beacon on top and looks right through the rock. We got up there and walked all the way around it to find the best way up. We soon found a path and scrambled up. It was fantastic to be up there. Next time I would like to try and get up to the beacon. There must be a way up there because someone must have built the beacon.
We mooched around a bit, took loads of photos and then came down.
In the afternoon my brother phoned from Harare. He flew up there yesterday to help my step-mom, Miriam, organise the funeral. There was plenty to be done which he managed very well. Today he called with a long shopping list. I immediately went out and bought all the stuff. It weighs 25kg. So I’ll put it all on the flight, hope they don’t charge me extra and if they do, I’ll take out the 3kg sugar and put it in my hand luggage. I’ll take a small case as hand luggage for my clothes. I fly out Monday after the show and should be back, God willing Thursday afternoon, in time for Friday’s show.
Then the week of 25th August is Share-a-thon week, which should be great fun!
