Lynn Baker

Lynn Baker

Date of birth?
21 March

What year did you begin at Radio CCFm?
2002/2003

What did you want to be when you were little?
an air hostess

What is your dream?
To live a complete, fulfilled, meaningful & purposeful life.

Who has influenced you most?
Without a shadow of a doubt, Jesus is/was/will be the best teacher, mentor, father, leader, etc; further down on the ladder of influence (as far as broadcasting is concerned) are people like Jeremy Maggs (formerly SABC), David Frost/Parkinson (BBC)/most of the amazing folk from "60 Minutes" (CBS - USA); I also never cease to be 'spurred on' by those who have nothing/come from nothing .... but who still manage to do amazing things.

Why a presenter at CCFm?
Well, one's got to start somewhere!!

Your greatest fear?
Not living/not being in a position to live ..... a complete, fulfilled, meaningful & purposeful life (see above).

What makes you laugh?
Sharp/clever/not obvious humour ... funny accents/imitations.

What angers you?
'phoneyniness' (there isn't such a word I know .... but you understand what I'm trying to say .... the picking on/hurting of poor/defenceless others (as well as animals) and the indiscriminate treatment of others (with words and/or actions) for no 'rhyme or reason' .... a 'snake-like' character .... hidden agendas ... the practice of insisting that you operate in a certain sphere when "you know that you know that you know" that you have neither the gift nor the talent for it .... bad drivers .... inefficiency .... rudeness .... swearing .... unprofessionalism ....

What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Be excellent ... always!!! (and that means doing ordinary things extraordinarily well).

Your most embarrassing moment?
Arriving for a speaking engagement and walking slap/bang into a glass door at the entrance to the venue (with everybody watching and giving me the 'ag shame' look!!) ... fortunately I was young enough at the time to recover relatively quickly!!

Your biggest triumph?
Overcoming fear (and other obstacles) to find my niche.

What is your favourite verse in the Bible and who is your favourite Bible character?
Jer. 29:11 "I know the plans ...." / Rom. 8:28 "All things work together ..." and many others.

All those who were small/weak/insignificant/downtrodden/scorned and had 'faults and failings' of some kind or another ... and yet God did great and marvellous things through them ... Gideon, Moses, Paul, Esther, Daniel, etc.

What do you do when you are not behind/in front of the microphone at CCFm?
Sleeeeeeep .... looooonnnggg!!, read, go to movies, garden and (of course) 'keep house' (like a good wife and mother!!).

What was the BEST moment of your life?
Realising that I was much more and capable of doing so much more than what I was led to believe I could be and what I was told to expect to be able to do (does that make sense?).

Which season is your favourite, and why?
Spring .... not too cold and not too hot.

Do you like the wind in Cape Town?
No!

What do you think about Cape Town's people?
Cape Town has in it some great 'human capital' - mostly generous .... sometimes beyond comprehension .... on occasion inefficient ... not often enough bold/willing to go out and try new things/grab opportunities and do things for themselves.
